What We Do

FR Done Properly, In One Place

Flame-resistant clothing isn't a category you should have to piece together from five different stores. We've put the full range under one roof so you can compare brands, match the right standard to your job, and order the lot in one go.

01

The Complete Range

Shirts, pants, coveralls, jackets and hi-vis FR — across DNC, Bisley, Portwest, NCC/Flamebuster and Bool. If it's certified FR and sold in Australia, you'll find it here.

02

Compliance Made Clear

Arc rating, AS/NZS standards, ATPV and EBT values, fabric weight — laid out in plain English so you can spec the right garment for arc flash, mining, welding or oil & gas without a deep dive.

03

Industry-First Buying

Shop by trade — electrical, mining, oil & gas, welding, rail — so the garment you land on is already filtered for the standards that matter for your work.

The Brands

Five Brands. One Shop.

Each brand earns its place because it does something the others don't. Here's the quick read on why we carry each one.

FR Standards in Australia

What The Standards Actually Mean

FR compliance is a minefield of acronyms. Here's the plain-English version of the standards that matter on Australian sites, and who needs each one.

AS/NZS 4824
FR Clothing — Base Standard

The Australian standard for protective clothing against heat and flame. Sets the minimum performance for fabrics that resist ignition and self-extinguish.

Who needs it: anyone working around flame, heat or ignition risk.
ATPV / EBT (cal/cm²)
Arc Flash Rating

Measures how much arc-flash energy a garment can absorb before the wearer suffers a second-degree burn. Higher cal/cm² = more protection. Tested under ASTM F1959.

Who needs it: electrical, substation, switchboard and utility workers.
NFPA 2112
Flash Fire Protection

Certification for garments protecting against short-duration flash fire. Common in oil & gas and petrochemical contracts where flash fire risk is the primary hazard.

Who needs it: oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery and pipeline crews.
AS/NZS 4502 / ISO 11611
Welding Protection

Standards for clothing worn during welding and allied processes. Covers protection against spatter, brief contact with flame, radiant heat and electrical contact up to 100V.

Who needs it: welders, boilermakers, fabricators and welding offsiders.
AS/NZS 1906.4 + 4602.1
FR Hi-Vis

Day/night high-visibility performance standards combined with FR certification. Required where both visibility and flame protection are needed — e.g. rail, roadworks near hot work.

Who needs it: rail, roads, mining surface crews, traffic management near hot work.
Care & Laundering
Protecting The Rating

FR garments have specific wash, dry and contamination rules. Industrial laundering, the wrong detergent, fabric softeners, or oil/grease contamination can void the FR rating entirely.

Care guides are linked from every FR product page.
Note: Always verify the exact certifications on the product page against your site's compliance requirements. Standards are revised over time and specific clause/edition references should be confirmed against current supplier documentation before ordering for a regulated job.
Why Safety Direct

Built For Australian Industry

We've been outfitting Australian workers in safety gear for years. FR is the natural extension — bringing the same multi-brand, industry-first approach to the most safety-critical category of workwear.

01
Brand-Agnostic

We carry the brands that earn it, not just the ones that pay best. Compare DNC vs Bisley vs Portwest on the same page.

02
Standards-Led

Arc rating, ATPV/EBT, AS/NZS compliance — surfaced on every product so you spec the right garment first time.

03
Trade-Ready

Shop by industry — electrical, mining, oil & gas, welding, rail — instead of wading through generic FR catalogues.

04
